| Commencing 1 December, 2022, Performance Based Standards (PBS) vehicles will have clearance to use a broader range of tyres, enabling the PBS scheme to continually support and promote the next generation of smarter, safer and more productive vehicles without compromising on safety or performance.
PBS operators will no longer be permitted to have retread tyres installed on the steer axle, effective immediately.
There is a transition period allowing for the existing method or generic tyre approach to be submitted for active Design Approval (DA) applications currently with a PBS Assessor. This will conclude at the end of February 2023 where only applications with the generic tyre approach will be accepted.
